I flew yesterday. Perfectly calm conditions. a 5000 foot tow
followed by several 1 minute runs at varying airspeeds from 35 to 75
mph. downloading the video now, hopefully the numbers work out. more
to come.

sink is 170 mph at about 41 mph and best glide is 23.5:1 at around 52
mph.

Tony,
That's quite a sink rate. I believe you meant 170 fpm

Uhh, that makes your L/D somewhere in the neighborhood of .241/1
(point two four one to one!) at min sink. I knew you are kinda bad ass
after all that wood/fabric silver chasing, but I had no idea that Iowa
had such incredible lift ;-). Pffft, Minden nothing, Iowa or
bust!...Boy does your polar pull out of it's nose dive between 41 and
52 mph! Oh wait, you meant 170 fpm, not mph dammit!

yea yea, if you look at the time that i posted this note you'll be able to
infer that it was early in the morning after several hours of number
crunching. 170 fpm it is. the cherokee has a lousy glide ratio, but not
THAT bad :)
